Cora Recommends: Her Perfect Cowboy by Trish Milburn

The “Cowboys Last All Night” box set, featuring my Cowboys of Chance Creek series prequel novella The Cowboy Inherits A Bride doesn’t release until Monday, Jan 12. If you need some heartwarming cowboy romance to keep you occupied until then, check out Trish Milburn’s Blue Falls, Texas series.

Blue Falls, Texas is a fictitious western town that serves as the backdrop for each of the stories. The first book in the series, Her Perfect Cowboy, is a tale of opposites attract when rugged rodeo promoter Liam Parrish crosses paths with frilly India Pike. Can they overcome their differences to find a happily ever after? You’ll have to read it to find out.

To give you a feel for the series–and the author behind the series–Trish Milburn has agreed to answer a few questions. She’s also offering a prize for one lucky reader!

What is it about cowboy novels that you find intriguing?

I grew up watching old westerns on TV. They were on a lot on Saturday afternoons. I like the idealized cowboy — strong, proud, hard worker, protector, at one with the land. There’s something romantic about this American icon.

Where did you get your inspiration for Blue Falls, TX?

I visited a good friend in San Antonio, and we drove out through the Hill Country of Texas. It’s pretty out there, and there are lots of small, cute towns. So Blue Falls is inspired by the real towns of Fredericksburg, Gruene and Marble Falls.

What do you think it is about cowboy novels that keeps them so popular?

The things I mentioned above. They’re the embodiment of what it means to be a uniquely American hero, men we associate with vast stretches of the American West. I think the image of a cowboy calls out to something primal in us, a connection to the land and to a simpler life.

What is your favorite cowboy movie?

Wow, that’s a tough question. Some favorites are Lonesome Dove, 3:10 to Yuma and Tombstone. I really need to go back and just have a weekend of watching old westerns.

The quintessential cowboy question–John Wayne or Clint Eastwood?

Oh, you and the hard questions. Both are certainly classics, but I’ll admit a slight preference for Clint Eastwood. And it seems like his son is following in his father’s heartthrob footsteps. Interesting side story — my uncle who lives in Arizona used to drive a tractor-trailer for a living. Once, years ago, he hauled a load of cattle for John Wayne’s ranch.
